Rita Kornblum has worked for the City of Hartford Health and Human Services Department since 1996 in a number of different positions. She is currently the program manager for the Hartford Health Equity Alliance. Throughout her time in Hartford she has maintained close ties with Hartford community-based organizations and she continually seeks input from community members to ensure that services and educational efforts meet their needs.
Rita was a member of the 2007 class of the CT Health Fellowship Program focusing on ethnic and health disparities. She is a current board member of the Hartford Food System.
Rita has been the host and producer of the Healthy Hartford television program that airs on the government access channel. The topics covered in the program revolve around health and the environment and they constitute an effort to provide outreach utilizing media to initiate contact with those who are harder to reach. Rita also maintains strong ties to local radio stations for the same reason. She recently started a new live call-in program that she co-hosts with another member of the Hartford Health Equity Alliance team to involve Hartford residents in the discussion of social determinants of health.
In addition, Rita is a trained medical interpreter, she is certified to coach individuals who want to quit smoking and those who suffer from chronic diseases and wish to learn to self manage their condition.
Rita is a native of Brazil and she is able to provide services in English, Portuguese and Spanish.
