Health Equity: Two Sides of the Same Coin

Health equity is achieved when every person has the opportunity to attain his or her full health potential. But how do we get there? The how is often the debate, and health care access (and delivery) and the social determinants of health are seen as two sides of the health equity coin.

Health-Equity-CoinInspired by the “The Two Sides of the Health Equity Coin” blog post which focuses on two health foundation’s perspectives on health equity, we (HJCT) wanted to circle this question back to the community, because central to our work is the belief that communities create the solutions.

As part of our series of community forums, we are pulling “online” themes “offline,” and hope that you will join us on  December  4, 2013, from5:30 p.m.  to 7:30 p.m. at The Grove, located on 760 Chapel Street in New Haven.  We will validate parking for the garage located on 280 State Street.

Panelists will explore these two approaches and consider if there are other avenues to achieving health equity as well. Panelists include: Yvette Bello from Latino Community Services, Inc.,  Katherine Ellington from World House Medicine, Harriet Steele from the Hartford Department of Health and Human Services, Robin Lamott Sparks from Bridgeport Child Advocacy Coalition, with Alex Thompson from the Yankee Institute for Public Policy serving as the program’s moderator.
